At Ridgeway Secondary School, we are proud to have recently partnered with the FTD Brothers, a local charity dedicated to raising awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s disease and frontotemporal dementia. Their mission resonates deeply with our school community, and over the course of an incredible week, students and staff came together to support this important cause through a variety of engaging events and activities.
The highlight of our fundraising week began with an inspiring visit to Astwood Primary School. Our student leaders led discussions to promote the FTD Brothers’ message, encouraging younger pupils to learn about the impact of Alzheimer’s and the importance of charitable efforts. This collaboration showcased the commitment of Ridgeway students to raising awareness beyond their own school and supporting their wider community.
Throughout the week, Penny from Alzheimer’s UK delivered engaging assemblies for our KS3 students, explaining the science behind Alzheimer’s, the challenges faced by those living with dementia, and how charities like the FTD Brothers provide vital support. These assemblies left a lasting impression on our students, sparking conversations and empathy among peers.
The week culminated in a vibrant and heartwarming “Orange Day” event on Friday. Students and staff were encouraged to wear orange, symbolising support for Alzheimer’s awareness. The school was awash with energy and generosity, as everyone contributed to raising funds for this vital cause.
We were also honored to welcome Jordon from the FTD Brothers, who visited Ridgeway Secondary during Orange Day to personally thank the students and staff for their incredible efforts. His heartfelt words and presence reminded us all of the importance of supporting those affected by Alzheimer’s and their families.
Thanks to the combined efforts of our school and the FTD Brothers, the week was a resounding success, raising both awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s research and support. At Ridgeway Secondary, we are proud to stand with the FTD Brothers in their fight against dementia, and we look forward to continuing our partnership in the future.
