Ridgeway Secondary School Council: Amplifying Student Voices

At Ridgeway Secondary School, we are proud to provide our students with a platform to shape their educational experience and address key issues that matter to them. Our School Council empowers students to make a difference in areas such as charity fundraising, student wellbeing, and online safety.

About the School Council

The Ridgeway Secondary School Council is a dynamic group of students dedicated to improving our school community. Members of the council represent their peers and collaborate to ensure every student’s voice is heard on important matters.

  • Meeting Schedule: The School Council meets once per week during designated times, providing a consistent opportunity for open dialogue and collaborative planning.
  • Leadership Structure: The council is chaired by the Student Leadership Team, ensuring effective communication and organised decision-making processes.

Key Areas of Focus

  1. Charity Fundraising
    • Organising school-wide events to support local and national charities.
    • Engaging students in creative initiatives to raise funds and awareness for meaningful causes.
    • Promoting the value of giving back to the community.
  2. Student Wellbeing and Experience
    • Working with school staff to enhance the student experience from what is sold in the cafeteria to clubs and trips that are ran across the school.
    • Implementing peer-led support initiatives to foster a more inclusive and supportive school environment.
    • Leading awareness campaigns to destigmatise conversations about mental health and other key issues.
  3. Online Safety
    • Collaborating with teachers and IT staff to educate students about responsible internet use.
    • Advocating for safe online practices and helping to address concerns such as cyberbullying.
    • Organising workshops and events to keep students informed about digital safety trends.

Why the School Council Matters

The School Council is not only a platform for discussion but a driving force for action. Through their work, council members develop essential skills in leadership, communication, and problem-solving. More importantly, they inspire a culture of collaboration and responsibility among their peers.

By addressing real-world issues and making tangible improvements in the school environment, the council plays a vital role in shaping the Ridgeway Secondary School experience.
