PE Kit Letter 2022

PE KIT

Dear Parents/carers,

Physical Education is a valuable part of the National Curriculum at Ridgeway Secondary School. As a department we strive to offer a broad and balanced curriculum to promote healthy active lifestyles for all our Students. Correct PE kit is a vital aspect of the subject for pupils to achieve their full potential and ensure that they are engaged within lessons. The majority of pupils bring their full PE kit to lessons, to enable consistency across the whole school. I would like to remind you of the PE kit and the procedures followed within the department.

  • Shin pads
  • Waterproof jacket
  • A bag for dirty trainers
  • Hoodies are not allowed
  • Jewellery is not permitted
  • Long hair must be tied up
  • Pupils have 5 minutes only to get changed in and out of their PE kit
  • Can you please ensure that all kit is named.

School PE kit can be purchased from either Alcester National School wear Centres, School Days Bromsgrove and Surridge Sport Direct.

Forgetting their PE kit

If your Son/daughter forgets all or part of their PE kit they will be expected to borrow kit and be issued with a demerit and a lunch time detention which will be set the following day.

If a note is provided by the student’s parent/guardian highlighting why they have not got their PE kit, the student will still be expected to take part in a coaching and or leadership role.

Injuries and Illnesses

It is a legal requirement for all pupils to participate in Physical Activity lessons unless they are excused with a note from their parent/guardian. If pupils are experiencing a slight cold, sore throat etc they will still be encouraged to take part in the lesson to the best of their ability.

If your son/daughter has a more serious long -term injury or illness that will excuse them from PE for a number of lessons/weeks a copy of a doctors or hospital note will be required. For these instances PE kit may not be needed, however this must be agreed with the parent and the Head of the PE Department.

Jewellery and watches

Any type of jewellery and watches are not permitted within a PE lesson and they will be asked to remove them at the start of the lesson. Failure to do this will result in a demerit and a lunchtime detention the following day. If you have had your ears pierced recently it is your responsibility to bring tape to cover them up or you will be asked to remove them.

Please can you ensure that you son/daughter has the appropriate PE kit as stated above and an appropriate bag for this to be carried in for September 2022.

Yours Faithfully,

Mrs Gallagher

Head of Physical Education
