Small School… Big Heart

Pastoral care is at the heart of what we do at Ridgeway. Here is a list of our pastoral contacts at Ridgeway:

  • Interim Deputy Headteacher (Pastoral)
  • Head of Key Stage 3: Mrs T Dodd
  • Head of Key Stage 4: Mr J Pittaway
  • SENDCo: Mrs S Trevethick
  • Attendance Officer: Mrs C Gibbs
  • Safeguarding Officer: Mrs L Dare

Parents of Year 6 and 8 students will have opportunities throughout the year to visit the school and meet the staff. Year 6 and 8 students will be visited in their schools and will have several opportunities to become acquainted with Ridgeway Secondary School before they begin with us.

All students will be allocated to a personal development group and the tutor will be the first point of contact for parents. Morning registers will be taken in personal development groups and tutors will take day-to-day responsibility for the general welfare and care of each student.

Heads of Key Stage and our Pastoral Leader are supported by a member of the Leadership Team. The Heads of Key Stage work closely with students, parents and outside agencies to ensure that all students receive excellent care, support and guidance.

Parents can also access information relating to their child’s academic and pastoral progress via our online school systems.

At Ridgeway, we offer a bespoke and specialist level of pastoral care to meet the different needs of each student. Our well-equipped and highly trained Student Services and Reconnect teams work tirelessly to ensure our students can be safe, happy and engaged with all that school life has to offer. The team is made up of key stage leaders responsible for each key stage in the school: their role is to monitor, challenge and support everything from welfare and attendance to behaviour and mental health. Alongside this we have a dedicated student and family support worker who forms a support system around the child by engaging with parents and carers, the student, the school and appropriate external agencies to reduce or break down any barriers to learning that may arise.

The three words that every Ridgeway student knows are ready, respectful and safe. Quite simply these are the words that underpin every desirable behaviour that the school expects. With these clear values, it is easy to reinforce the high expectations we have as a school.

Ready: this refers to anything from attention, uniform, equipment or punctuality.

Respectful: relates to communication and interaction with the school environment and all of those in it.

Safe: ensures we have an emphasis on maintaining a calm and safe environment for all to flourish.
