Ridgeway students storm to GCSE success

 

Ridgeway Secondary School students capped off a challenging year with an impressive set of GCSE results.

 

The Astwood Bank school’s Year 11 students improved on last year’s GCSE results with the number achieving top grades in both English and maths also increasing. Progress was also significantly above national expectations.

 

Deputy headteacher Matt Ball congratulated students who visited the school to pick up their results, describing their achievements as “outstanding”. It was the second set of GCSE results in the history of the school.

 

“The results that have been achieved by our students are outstanding and are just reward for their hard work, determination and resilience during extremely challenging times,” he said.

 

“It is also testament to the high standards and excellent teaching and support of the staff at Ridgeway, who could not have worked any harder. And we should also pay tribute to the families who have supported their children throughout their time at this school.”

 

There were some exceptional individual performances. Top achievers at the school included:

 

Storm Cox – attained an extraordinary seven grade 9s and two grade 8s.  These included 9s in English Language, English Literature, Geography, French, Science, Food and Nutrition and Music.  Her grade 8s were in Science and Maths.

 

Jacky Chen – also attained an amazing seven grade 9s and two grade 8s.  Jacky’s grade 9s were in English Language, English Literature, Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and History, with grade 8s in Art and French.

 

Barney Stewart-Clark – also performed amazingly, attaining seven grade 9s in English Language, English Literature, Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and History.  He also attained a grade 8 in Art and a grade 7 in French.

 

Caitlin Nesbitt – attained fantastic results with five grade 9s in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Geography and PE and four grade 7s in English Language, English literature, Maths and Spanish.

 

Darcie Walsh – Darcie attained excellent results, recording four grade 8s in Maths, Biology, Chemistry and Geography.  She also attained four grade 7s in English Language, English Literature, Physics and Art.

 

Georgia Davies – attained a brilliant set of results, these included a grade 9 and 8 in Science, grade 8s in Maths and Geography, and grade 7s in English Language and English literature.

 

Alara Cetin – produced a fantastic set of results, attaining grades 9 and 8 in Science, grade 8s in Business Studies and History and grade 7s in English Literature and Sociology.

 

Jack Povey – attained a wonderful set of results including a grade 9 in English Language, grade 8s in English Literature, two grade 8s in Science and grade 7s in Art, Computing, Maths and Geography.

Esme Allen – Esme achieved an amazing set of GCSE results, with a grade 9 in Music, grade 8 in Sociology and a grade 7 in History.

 

Matt Ball added: “Whatever their ability, our students have achieved excellent results which will enable them to go on to their next steps with confidence.  We thank them for being a wonderful group of young people and wish them all the very best.”
