RE: KS2 Maths and English workbooks
Last week you should have received through the post a range of CGP workbooks to support your son or daughter’s learning in both Maths and English. The books will be used to support and supplement the current and ongoing provision provided through Microsoft Teams and our online curriculum. The workbooks will not replace the online provision but blend with the lessons to further offer a range of learning tasks and to check understanding.
Your son or daughter’s teacher will instruct them through the lessons on Teams when and how they will use these resources. This may also involve students marking their own work, using the answers at the back of the books, and messaging their class teacher their scores or results.
We appreciate that at this very demanding time, our youngest students are being asked to spend an ever-increasing amount of time online and looking at screens. We know that this is not ideal and adds to the pressure of both sharing devices and maintaining a healthy balance with the use of technology. We hope that the use of the workbooks will go some way to help alleviate that pressure and provide key breaks from the screen.
We would also like to take this opportunity to emphasise the importance of students continuing to read for pleasure. You will be aware that every week students spend an hour of lesson time reading independently, with students being asked key questions by their class teacher to discuss what they have read. Students then read for a further 60 minutes a week in form time, where they read the same text and share their ideas and feelings about the book as a group. If your son or daughter is struggling to maintain their reading, please do not hesitate to contact Miss Powell, who will be happy to help and support.
If you should require further guidance and clarification on the use of the workbooks, reading or supporting your son or daughter with Maths and English, please do not hesitate to get in contact with either Miss Powell, Head of English, or Mr Hayward, Head of Maths.
Thank you for your continuing support.
Miss J. Powell and Mr N Hayward
