New Ridgeway Secondary School and P.E. kit for 2020/21

Dear Parents/ Carers

New Ridgeway Secondary School and P.E. kit for 2020/21

As you will have noticed the school has changed its logo, this is in part to reflect the progress and achievements that the academy and its students have made over the years. It also embraces the new identity we have as Ridgeway Secondary School. To fully embed this stage in our continued progress, we have carried out a great deal of work with students about how to represent our identity, including our newly refurbished corridors, facilities and visual identity.

This year we are rolling out a badge for the whole school that will incorporate our new school name and make sure our uniform is kept current and fit for purpose. This will continue to include ties, which will be different for lower (Yr 5/67/8) and upper school (Yr 9/10/11), new blazers which will have our new badge embroidered on the pocket are not compulsory but should be purchased if a new blazer is needed, and a newly designed Surridge Sport personalised sports kit for students.

We understand the increased economic burden new uniform can bring to a household. With this in mind uniform with the new branding should only be brought if a new uniform is needed. Regarding PE kit compulsory items are the following:

Red Polo

Navy Shorts/Skirt

Red /  White Socks

Optional items are available but not essential.

The new PE kit will also be optional for all years except new students or those replacing kit for this academic year and they can continue to wear their old P.E. kit if they choose to. However, we have pushed our suppliers extremely hard to obtain what we feel is a very good price for professional sports clothing and we would encourage you to purchase it, if possible. I am sure you will be satisfied with the quality of the products you receive, and your child will be proud to wear the school PE kit. It is important that when attending school in PE Kit the items permitted in the school building will be a blazer or school branded sports items.

*Hoodies or other garments will not be allowed.

The physical shops are now stocking the new uniforms, but this will be dependent on the Covid19 situation with regards to stock.  The new sports kit can be personalised with your child’s initials, which should usually be specified at time of order online or in store. It is advised that you do not personalise your items at point of order but instead order them as they are, then once you are sure they are the correct size and the current Covid19 situation has eased, take them into the shop to get them personalised retrospectively. Personalisation is not a school requirement but is there as an option should you wish to use it.

As always, we will work with you and support anyone who may be struggling with any of these new changes to our uniform. We are extremely proud of our achievements, our students and our community. We look forward to continuing to cement our expectations and creating a fantastic learning environment for all, the uniform that students wear should be done so with respect and pride. We are very clear about our uniform expectations as we feel it adds to the positive learning environment within the school as well as reflecting the values that we stand for:

  • Respect
  • Self-Discipline
  • Resilience
  • Tolerance
  • Excellence
  • Determination

Thank you for your continued support of Ridgeway Secondary School.

Yours sincerely

Mr J Worton
