With the current ‘closure’ of schools and colleges and the announcement that exams have been cancelled, I wanted to offer reassurance to your current year 11 students with regard to how Worcester Sixth Form College will support their preparation for sixth form studies.
Applications to College
- Where a young person has already made an application to College and been interviewed and offered a place, we will maintain regular contact with them and offer assurances about starting sixth form studies in September.
- If an application has been submitted but the interview has not taken place as a result of ‘closure’ we have emailed to offer a place to them and advised that individual discussions about suitable programmes will take place as soon as practicable.
- We are still accepting applications for September and will correspond with new applicants offering the same reassurances as to others.
Support and Preparatory Work during ‘closure’ period
I have emailed all our applicants to emphasise the importance of continuing to work hard and complete work set by their teachers at school. We are keen to find ways to work with you on ideas for bridging tasks or material that students could work on as a means of retaining their engagement with education should their GCSE course have been completed. It would obviously help us by encouraging students to prepare for their sixth form studies.
Some schools have already been in touch with us about this matter and we would be pleased to discuss these or similar ideas with you in order to find ways that we can work collaboratively. If you would like to discuss this further please let me know and I will ask our Deputy Principal Ruth Scotson to get in touch with you.
Finally, I would like to take the opportunity to wish you and your school community well at this difficult time and hope that all remain safe and healthy.
